Knights Sweep the Series With Two Shutouts

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The Knights were back on the field on Saturday, April 11th as they were set to play a doubleheader to wrap up their series with the Panthers of Claflin University. The Knights won the first game of the series and were looking to come away with a sweep.

Game One

Game Recap

The Knights jumped on the Panthers early in game one as they scored five runs in the first inning on two-run singles by Sebastian Collender and Garrett Frost and an RBI double from Mikal Ashley. The Knights added another four runs in the third inning on an RBi single by Tate Abbott, a sacrifice fly by Teonis PImentel, and an RBI double by Justin Aponte. Two more runs came across in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice and another run scored in the sixth inning as the Knights went up 12-0. The Knights put the game out of hand in the seventh inning as they scored 11 runs in the inning to go up 23-0 and win the game by the same score.

Notable Performances

Justin Aponte and Mikal Ashley each had four hits while Garrett Frost had three hits. Andrew Lowrey pitched the complete game allowing only three hits and striking out five batters in the shutout.

Game Two

The offense for the Knights got going again early as they scored six runs in the first inning with an RBI groundout by Patrick Crosby, a two-run single by Tate Abbott and a three-run home run by Garrett Frost. A solo home run by Justin Aponte in the second inning added another run and the Knights put another run on the board in the fourth inning. The Knights put the game in mercy rule territory in the sixth inning with three runs on a sacrifice fly by Mikal Ashley and a two-run home run by Abbott to go up 11-0. Dayton Taylor hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to add another run and the Knights won the game 12-0.

Notable Performances

Tate Abbott and Mikal Ashley each recorded three hits while the pitching staff recorded the shutout, allowing five hits and striking out eight batters.

What's Up Next

The Knights will head back out on the road on Tuesday, April 14th as they head to Rome, Georgia to take on the Hawks of Shorter University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM EST.
