Baseball Comes From Behind to Win in 10th

Box Score

COCHRAN, GA - The baseball team moved their games up a day to play on Valentine's Day and the result was a sweet, 10-inning victory over the Talladega Tornadoes by a score of 9-8.  The win moves the Knights to 6-1 and the Tornadoes are now 2-7.  Four Knights each had 2 hits in the game and 8 different Knights scored at least one run.

The Knights jumped to an early lead when Trent Nash hit a home run to start the bottom of the 1st but the Tornadoes got that run back on a dropped 3rd strike that ended up with a runner on second instead of an inning ending strikeout and capitalized with an RBI single two batters later.  The Knights scored in the bottom of the 3rd with back-to-back doubles to start the inning for Bucky McGlamrey and Nash for a 2-1 lead.  In the 4th, Luke Parks doubled with 2 outs then scored on McGlamrey's triple for a 3-1 lead and Alex Snider was cruised into the 5th with a 3-1 lead.  Snider gave up 4 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 7 in 5.0 innings of work.  Blake Jackson put up the 4th run in the bottom of the 5th on a solo homer and a 4-1 lead after 5 complete.  The Tornadoes finally struck in the 6th getting to Dalton Rentz for 5 earned runs on 4 hits and a walk in 0.1 innings before Devan Harriman came on in releif giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits before getting out of the inning and trailing 8-4.  The Knights stranded 1 in the 6th but got back on the board in the 7th with 4 runs on 1 hit.  Jacob Durant got a 1-out walk and stolen base before Zach Cornell and Jackson walked to load the bases.  A wild pitch scored Durant and MJ Rookard walked to reload the bases.  Colby Owens hit a sacrifice fly that allowed all three runners to advance and cut the lead to 8-6.  Chris Burgess doubled down the left field line to score Jackson and Rookard to tie the game at 8.  Kendall Marshall took over for Harriman in the 7th and gave up 2 hits and struck out 2 batters in 4.0 innings of work as the Knights got to the 10th tied at 8.  Burgess led off with a walk, and Parks was hit by a pitch then a walk issued to Nash loaded the bases with 1 out for Durant.  Durant hit a ball up the middle that was bobbled by the shortstop allowing time for Durant to beat out the throw to first to avoid the doubleplay and allowed pinch runner Jordeyn Lewis to score from 3rd for the win.  Marshall was credited with the win for the Knights for his first.

The same teams will meet in a doubleheader on Friday, February 15 starting at 1PM.
