Baseball Takes 2 to Open SSAC Play Against Loyola

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COCHRAN, GA - Baseball took game 1 by a score of 10-8 in the 7 inning contest and then won game 2 by a score of 7-5 over the Loyola University Wolfpack.  The pair of wins move the Knights to 13-3 on the season and 2-0 in SSAC play.

In Game 1, the Knights jumped to a 5-0 lead in the 2nd on a 2-run single by Chris Burgess which involved an E8 allowing Jacob Durant to score from 1st and Burgess to reach 3rd.  Bucky McGlamrey singled home Luke Parks who was running for Burgess and Trent Nash hit a sacrifice fly to score McGlamrey after a stolen base and error allowed him to reach 3rd.  The Knights added 3 more in the 3rd on an RBI single by MJ Rookard, sacrifice fly by Zach Cornell, and Rookard advancing on an error by the right fielder on a throw for an 8-0 lead.  Starter Alex Snider cruised through the first 3 innings allowing just 1 hit but gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in the 4th.  In the 5th, the Wolfpack chased Snider and scored 6 runs on 7 hits to tie the game at 8.  Devin Harriman took over in the 6th for the Knights on the mound and gave up just 2 hits and 2 hit-by-pitch in 2 innings of work as Blake Jackson's 2-run single in the 6th put the Knights up and gave Harriman the win.

Game 2 saw the Wolfpack get to starter, Preston Sparks for a pair of doubles and a 2-run homer accounting for 3 runs in the top of the 1st but sparks settled in and only allowed 3 more hits over the next 5 innings with 8 strikeouts and a walk in 6.0 innings of work.  The Knights chipped away at the 3-run deficit with a run on a balk in the first, Luke Parks' RBI single in the 2nd, and Rookard's RBI single in the 3rd to tie the game at 3.  In the 4th, the Knights got 4 runs on 6 hits as Parks had an RBI double and scored on an error later.  Nash singled home Dayton Beasley and Gunner Sellers got an RBI walk for a 7-3 lead.  The Wolfpack got a run in the 7th off reliever Drew Martens and another in the 8th off Martens before Jackson Braden took over with the bases loaded to get the final 2 outs of the inning.  Braden got in trouble with a hit an error in the 9th but got a popout to end the game and earn the save on Sparks's win.

The same two teams will play game 3 of the series on Saturday, March 2 at 1PM.  The Knights will be at home on Tuesday for their next game as they host Georgia Southwestern at 4PM then head out on the road for a 3-game SSAC series at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL on March 8-9.
