Box Score 2 COCHRAN, GA - Baseball's winning streak was snapped at 14 with a game 1 loss to the USC-Beaufort Sand Sharks on Tuesday, March 19, but the bats woke back up in game 2 for a 12-0 win and the 23rd win of the season. The Knights are ranked 8th in the NAIA coach's poll for the 2nd straight time and are now 23-4 on the season headed into a 3-game series on March 22-23 against #2 Faulkner in Montgomery, AL.
Game 1 saw the Knights get outhit 14-4 as Dayton Beasley had a pair of hits while Blake Jackson and Zach Cornell had a hit each. Kyle Anderson took the loss for the Knights as he left after 4.0 innings down 2-0. After going 1.1 innings, Chris Cuthrell got into a 1-out situation giving way to Drew Martens who went 1.2 innings of perfect pitching. The Knights left 5 runners stranded in the game while the Sand Sharks stranded 9 runners but got some timely hits together for the win.
In game 2, the Knights faired much better striking with a run in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, 5 in the 4th and another 2 in the 5th for a total of 12 on 7 hits. Jackson was 2 for 3 in the game with 3 RBI and a run scored while Trent Nash was 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored. Chris Burgess also had 3 RBI with a double in the 4th.
The Knights head to Montgomery for a conference matchup as they take their 9-0 SSAC and 23-4 overall record to face #2 Faulkner who is 8-1 in SSAC play and 22-7 overall. The Knights will be on the road during the week next week at NCAA Division II member Georgia College before heading back home for a 3-game series on March 29 and 30 against William Carey University.
