Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, AL - Baseball got swept by the #2 Faulkner University Eagles over the weekend experiencing their first losing streak of the year. The Knights lost game 1 by a score of 18-1 in 7 innings and then game 2 by a score of 17-10. The losses take the Knights season record to 23-7 and 9-3 in SSAC play.
Game 1 saw the Knights fall behind 6-0 in the 2nd as starter Alex Snider left after just 1.2 innings of work. Dayton Beasley drove home the only run with a solo home run in the top of the 3rd but the Eagles added 2 more in the 3rd, 4 in the 5th, and 6 in the 6th for an 18-1 win. The Knights used 3 pitchers in the loss giving up a combined 13 earned runs and 8 strike outs.
Game 2 saw the bats come to life for the Knights but fell behind 1-0 in the 2nd. The Knights scored a run to tie the game in the top of the 3rd on Robbie Hanlon's RBI double. In the 4th the Knights put up 7 runs on 3 hits to take an 8-1 lead. MJ Rookard and Bucky McGlamrey had back-to-back doubles and each scored on wild pitches. Trent Nash doubled home Beau Peltier and Hanlon had an RBI bunt for a 5-1 lead. A balk by the Ealges pitcher scored another run which was followed by a wild pitch for another run. Rookard capped the scoring with an RBI ground out. The Eagles answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th to cut the lead to 8-6. In the top of the 6th, the Knights added 2 more runs on Jacob Durant's first home run of the season for a 10-6 lead. The game went downhill from there as the Eagles put up 8 runs on 7 hits in the 6th to go ahead 14-10. The Eagles added a run in the 7th and 2 in the 8th to get the 17-10 win. Jackson Braden was saddled with the loss for the Knights.
The Knights will face NCAA DII member Georgia College & State University in their next game on Tuesday, March 26 in Milledgeville, GA. The team will return home on Friday, March 29 and Saturday the 30th to host a 3-game series with SSAC opponent William Carey starting at 3PM on Friday and 1PM on Saturday.
