Blake Jackson Walk-off Grand Slam, 2 Home Runs by Hanlon Help Knights Sweep Brewton Parker College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COCHRAN, GA - Baseball hosted the Brewton Parker College Barons for a doubleheader in the final home series of the season for the Knights and got a pair of wins including a walk-off grand slam in game 1 after falling behind on a grand slam in the top of the 7th.  The Knights took game 1 by a score of 9-7 as Blake Jackson hit a walk-off grand slam then took game 2 by a score of 9-4.  The wins have the Knights overall record at 35-11 on the season and 18-6 in SSAC play.  The Knights got a pair of solo home runs from Robbie Hanlon on the day while Bucky McGlamrey hit a 2-run home run in the first game, and Jackson's grand slam.

Game 1 started out well for the Knights and starting pitcher Jackson Braden as Hanlon hit a solo homer in the first for a 1-0 lead as Jackson went 6 innings allowing 8 hits, 3 earned runs, and a walk while striking out 4.  The Barons got a run in the top of the 4th to tie the game at 1 but McGlamrey's homer in the bottom of the 4th put the Knights back up 3-1.  The Barons tied it up again with two in the 6th and the Knights answered with RBI singles by Hanlon and Zach Cornell for a 5-3 lead.  Logan Carter came on in the 7th and gave up a walk and 2 hits ahead of Seht Graham who homered on the first pitch to give the Barons a 7-3 lead.  Devan Harriman came in to replace Carter and got the final 2 outs of the inning while striking out 1.  The Knights got a single from Jacob Durant and double by McGlamrey to lead off the 7th to put the tying run at 2nd before a pair of outs.  Hanlon laid down a perfect bunt for a hit to load the bases for Jackson who deposited the 3rd pitch he saw over the left field fence for a walk-off grand slam and 9-7 win for the Knights.  The win for Harriman was his 6th of the season and 10th of his tenure with the Knights.

Game 2 saw the Barons jump ahead 3-0 in the top of the 1st with a solo and a 2-run home run while the Knights answered a 2-run single from Guner Sellers to trail 3-2.  Trent Nash had an RBI double in the 2nd to tie the game at 3.  Knights starter Jason Gifford went 3.0 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits and a walk with 2 strike outs before giving way to Dalton Rentz in the 4th.  Rentz went 3.0 giving up an earned run in the 4th on couple of walks and a hit but only allowed 2 hits in his work with a strike out to earn the win.  Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of 4, Hanlon hit is 2nd solo home run of the day, 5th of the season to tie the game at 4.  Cornell scored in the 5th off an error by the Barons short stop to take the lead 5-4.  Hanlon laid down a squeeze bunt to score pinch runner Jordeyn Lewis in the 6th and extend the lead to 6-4.  In the 7th, McGlamrey laid down a bunt squeez to score MJ Rookard then Durant stole 3rd and came home on a throwing error by the catcher for a lead of 8-4.  Cam Bailey took over for Rentz in the 7th going 2.0 innings with 3 strike outs and a walk as the Barons were held at bay.  The Knights tacked on one more run on Rookard's sacrifice fly to score Hanlon in the 8th allowing Alex Snider to throw the 9th and close out the game for the 9-4 win.

The Knights final 3 games of the season will be a series against the Martin Methodist Red Hawks with a doubleheader on Thursday, April 25 followed by a single game on Friday the 26th.  The Knights currently sit in the 2nd seed for the SSAC Tournament to start on May 1 in Montgomery, AL and are 3 games back of 1st place Faulkner and, as of this story being published, 3.5 games ahead of 3rd place Blue Mountain with a 4 game lead over 4th place Martin Methodist.  Mathematically, the Knights have a solid spot in the 2-seed as Martin Methodist and Blue Mountain have cancelled a game each keeping them a half game back even if they win all 3 of their scheduled games for the 25th and 26th.
