Baseball Wins 5th Straight 15-3 over Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, GA - Eighth ranked baseball won their 5th straight game and 3rd straight by 10+ runs with a 15-3 win over the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on Wednesday the 3rd.  The Knights are now 28-8 on the season.  

The Knights jumped on the Canes early with 5 in the 1st on 3 hits as starter Dalton Rentz was dealing with 8 strike outs, no runs, and only 2 hits in the first 5 innings on his way to the win.  An RBI single by Blake Jackson got the scoring started followed by an RBI ground out to first by MJ Rookard.  An RBI single by Jacob Durant and 2-run single by Bucky McGlamrey capped the first and a 5-0 lead early. 

Robbie Hanlon's sacrifice fly in the 2nd put the Knights up 6-0.  An RBI double by Jackson and RBI ground out by Zach Cornell extended the lead to 8-0 through 4.  Rookard made it 10-0 with a 2-run homer, his 5th of the season, in the top of the 6th.  

The Canes finally got to Rentz in the 6th for 3 runs on 4 hits in the inning to cut the lead to 10-3 but Rentz finished the inning leaving with 6.0 innings, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, and 8 strike outs against no walks.

The Knights answered with 3 in the top of the 7th to take the lead back to 10 as Chris Burgess scored on a balk and Colby Owens singled home Jakcson then came around to score on a passed ball.  Durant capped the scoring with a 2-run single in the top of the 8th for the 15-3 lead.

Jake Cooper threw 2.0 innings with 5 strike outs, no hits, and just one walk while Tyler Goddard finished off the 9th allowing a hit and striking out 1.

Jakcson, Owens, McGlamrey, Rookard, and Durant each had 2 hits in the game while Durant and Rookard had 3 RBI each with Jackson and Hanlon scoring 3 times each.  

The Knights head to Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee this weekend stargin with a doubleheader on Friday at 5PM Eastern and a single game on Saturday in SSAC play.  The Knights are 12-3 in SSAC play while Bethel comes into the series at 20-13 overall and 9-6 in SSAC play.
